Here are some of the round-tailed ground squirrels observed at Sabino Canyon over the last two months.
I hope you enjoy looking at the pictures as much as I enjoyed taking them.
"Our task must be to free ourselves by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature and its beauty." ~Albert Einstein
oh my gosh! They are darling! I love the picture of the two that look like they are kissing...and every other one. You did an amazing job capturing these little guys!
OMG! They are adorable. And such hams for the camera. Looks like a very happy family. Especially love the one on its belly waving. Great captures, every one.
Cute little squirrels, Diane. They do look different from ours. It's interesting to see all of the different squirrels in various parts of our country.
Those round-tailed squirrels are just so adorable! They are so different from the ones I see here. Love that photo of the squirrel thatstretches out in the dirt!
oh wow, these are very cute :) i like the kissing squirrels and the one that stretches out, actually i love all of them, have never seen squirrels performed to me like that. you are so lucky.
Oh, Diane, these are wonderful! Aren't they just so fun to watch? They just always seem so happy!! As much delight as I always have watching them, I've never seen such antics as these you've captured! I bet you were much lighter and freer after this visit. :))
They look alot like the Richardson Ground Squirrels in western Canada. Alberta has very few of them as there was a bounty of $2 per tail for years. They were nearly eradicated because cattle would step into their burrow holes and break their legs.
But these are such cuties, and in some pet stores are available as pets.
I like these ground squirrels. I mostly get to see tree squirrels. I get to see a lot of chipmunks lately though. Squirrels all act similarly sometimes, but the differences are fun to look for too. The ground squirrels I've seen so far seem to be more curious than tree squirrels.
How adorable! I've never heard of ground squirrels, and they are so lovely. The photo of the one lying on it's tummy looks as if it is waving at the camera!
You got some great pics of these little guys. I liked you saguaro post as well. We're home for a few days then off to the cabin. Jules is very patient with me but I think he may be getting tired of being on the go all the time.
Sorry to drop by late again. Pls. forgive me. Candid shots are here to make people smile, laugh and temporary forget of their daily worries:)
I really your your passion sharing thiese adorable squirrels life in a big picture here:)
At first, I see one, then teo, then three, followed by four....wow...a whole group. Somemore, kissing, doing funny poses. You are there and fast with your magic len, we here are so blessed to witness the beautiful shots!
Make sure Disney doesn't see these guys. They'll end up in a animated feature and that's for sure.
ReplyDeleteI saw some roundtails the last time I was in Tucson! They seem much more streamlined than other squirrels.
ReplyDeleteI have NEVER seen anything like these squirrels! Talk about adorable! The poses you got pics of are just too cute!!! Oh my goodness.

Hi Barbara, You're right, these round-tails do resemble Richardson ground squirrels. Interesting about the bounty for them; too bad about the cattle.
